Facebook red notifications?

-Once a private message has been read, I know it can then be marked as unread but how do you get the red alert notification to appear back as red?You can't. Sometime fb can make mistakes like not making it red in the first place. So you could pass it off as a technical glitch. Or send them a message which will make it red.
